Internship Opportunities
General Information
HCI provides learning opportunities to prepare professionals to deliver effective, child centered, family-focused services. Internships and practicum at both the undergraduate and graduate levels are provided to social work, counseling, psychology, and child welfare students. Internships are individually tailored and may include opportunities other than those listed below. Inquires should refer to contact information below.
Graduate Internships
1st year: allows exposure to psycho-social assessments, working with multiple systems, formulating case plans, engagement skills, direct intervention with families, resource development, and research. Placements are offered in Alternative Response, Home Based Family Services, and the Homeless Youth Outreach Program.
2nd year: developing assessment and diagnostic skills, expanding repertoire of clinical techniques and interventions, research, and direct care practice with children and families. Placements are offered in Alternative Response, Home Based Family Services, and the Homeless Youth Outreach Program.
Generally, graduate internships take place over two semesters (approximately 400-600 hours), and are LCSW supervised.
Undergraduate Internships
Various opportunities exist to learn basic assessment, planning and intervention skills with children and families, as well as opportunities to network, update resources, assist and shadow workers, and coordinate services. Placements are offered in Alternative Response, Home Based Family Services, and the Homeless Youth Outreach Program.
Generally undergraduate internships take place over two semesters. Occasionally, requests can be made for shorter periods of time for placements in Supervised Visitation.
All interns at both the graduate and undergraduate level are trained in confidentiality, social work ethics, professional boundaries, and agency policies and procedures. In addition, interns receive program specific training.
