Family Reunification Program
General Information
The Family Reunification Program (FRP) is a voluntary home-based service. Families who have children that have been removed due to abuse and/or neglect, and have demonstrated some progress towards reunification, are referred by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services Child Protective Case Worker for service with HCI.
Children have a right to be raised in a safe and nurturing family. Parents have the right and responsibility to raise their children. The goal of FRP is to increase successful reunification of families, and decrease the amount of time a child spends in an out of home placement before returning home.
The Family Reunification team includes a Masters level clinician and trained family support worker who works intensively with the family for four to six months to help resolve child safety issues by building on existing family strengths, learning new skills, and identifying natural and community supports. There is an on call number so that the FRP team is available to families 24/7 during this transitional period when children return to their homes.
FRP is offered in the following counties:
- Knox County
- Waldo County
- Lincoln County
- Sagadahoc County
