A Look at the Breakwater Teen Shelter

The Breakwater Teen Shelter provides a safe place for youth between the ages of 10 to 17 to stay. The shelter is located at 218 Main St., with a bed capacity for eight boys and eight girls. The shelter is licensed by The Department of Human Services, as a low-barrier youth shelter. The low barrier status means that barriers are lowered for youth to access the program and the shelter is not a 24-hour shelter. The shelter is open seven days a week from 8pm to 8 am.

A Look at Homeless Youth Outreach

Currently, the Homeless Teen Project has three outreach workers in the Knox, Lincoln, and Waldo counties.  These Outreach Workers provide a wealth of services to youth who are Homeless or At-Risk of Being Homeless. Workers can assist with basic necessities such as housing, clothing and food resources. Yet, the Outreach Workers provide much more in the form of acting as an advocate for the youth in their goals, whether it be finishing school, finding work, or mediating problems with the family. These services are available to any youth from the ages of 10-21.
